WHEY = INDUSTRIAL LEFTOVERS
Whey was never meant to be food. It began as the watery waste from industrial cheese making. For decades, factories paid to haul it away, dumped it or fed it back to the livestock as a low quality feed.
WHEY SOLVES A WASTE PROBLEM - NOT A NUTRITION PROBLEM
Faced with disposal costs and environmental rules, the dairy industry found a profitable fix: filter, concentrate, and dry the liquid into powder — then market it as a premium protein.
Modern processing can make whey usable, but its origin remains the same: it exists because cheese is made, not because nutritionists set out to design the best protein.
While whey isn't inherently “bad,” it is an industrial byproduct and there are much better alternatives for someone in need of a health supplement. Manufacturers simply choose not to use them in order to make more profit.
WHEY CAUSES BLOATING - PERSONALLY AND AT THE CASH REGISTER
Global cheese production creates staggering volumes of whey. At the source, whey is cheap and plentiful. What drives price at retail is branding, greed, flavor systems, and middlemen — not scarcity or craftsmanship.
Many brands import their whey from overseas where they purchase it for as little as $8 per kg, yet you're paying as much as $60 per kg at a retailer. Don’t believe us? Search for “whey isolate” on www.Alibaba.com.
There was even recently an article published by Consumer Reports on protein powders. A little known fact that substantiates our claims further, is that the biggest culprit in the report admitted to sourcing their protein supplements from overseas.
THE 2‑PURE DIFFERENCE
We don't use whey because cheap isn't our mission. Our products are created specifically for nutrition, consistency, and taste.
We use MILK PROTEIN for the following reasons:
- Intentionally Made For Nutrition - It is purpose made from whole milk. It is not an afterthought.
- Natural Nutrient Retention. - Because MPI/MPC comes directly from milk, it captures more vitamins, minerals, and other bioactive compounds than whey proteins - just as Mother Nature intended.
- Less Stomach Upset - It digests better and provides nutrition over a sustained period of time. (Who are we to second-guess Mother Nature? ALL milk is created the same way!).
- It Actually Tastes Good - Quality milk proteins don't need fillers, flavours, masking agents or sweeteners.
WHAT IS MILK PROTEIN?
Milk protein isolates (MPI) and concentrates (MPC) are derived directly from whole milk, without undergoing the cheese-making process. These products retain the natural 80:20 ratio of casein to whey proteins found in milk. This makes MPI/MPC a more comprehensive source of dairy protein, offering benefits such as:
- Slow and Sustained Digestion. Casein is slower to digest, releasing amino acids over time, ideal for long-term muscle repair or overnight recovery. It also helps with appetite control by giving a person that "full" feeling for a longer period of time.
- Natural Nutrient Retention. Because MPI/MPC comes directly from milk, it captures more vitamins, minerals, and other bioactive compounds than whey proteins.
- Neutral Flavour Profile The creaminess and mild taste make milk proteins ideal for meal replacements, creamy beverages, smoothies, baking and so forth.
WHY DOESN'T EVERYONE USE MILK PROTEIN?
Remember when we said earlier that the decisions other companies make may not necessarily be in your best interest? In many cases, the decision to use whey proteins vs milk proteins in a brand's products comes down to two things: cost and availability. When weighing the cost/benefit of using whey vs. milk protein most companies compromise. They factor in availability and budget, determine that whey is the low-hanging fruit then subsequently choose that route. In many cases, the decision of what to use is not based on what's best for you, but rather what fits in the brand's budget and distribution strategy. If they can hide terrible taste with "flavour" and sweetener they will to save a buck. Here at 2-Pure, we're the brand, the manufacturer, the distributor, and the retailer. We eliminate many middle-men (and their mark-ups), resulting in our ability to offer you a high-quality, value-priced product that other brands simply cannot.
WHEN SHOULD YOU USE WHEY PROTEIN?
Well, when you eliminate the bro-science and studies paid for by supplement companies to move more inexpensive but highly profitable whey, the short answer is "If milk protein is available, you don't need to. Ever." Milk proteins contain whey for a source of quickly bio-available protein, but quantities that nature has determined you need. Too much of a "good thing" rarely is a good thing.
WHEN SHOULD YOU USE MILK PROTEIN?
Milk protein is more versatile, and provides a balance of fast, and slow digesting proteins containing all of the essential amino acids your body needs. It's a great choice for meal replacements, helping control appetite, overnight recovery, and nutritional completeness, as it closely resembles the natural composition of milk - which is usually 80% casein and 20% whey - both very beneficial proteins. For the average person who isn't performing intense physical activity but is interested nonetheless in staying healthy milk proteins offer a more balanced solution because important minerals such as Calcium bond to the caseins, resulting in milk protein-based supplements containing as much as 5X more Calcium that mainstream protein powders that use whey. That being said, milk proteins are also appealing to high performing athletes who are looking for quick recover and a slower releasing protein to work at night while they are sleeping. Oh... and milk proteins taste MUCH better than whey proteins. They are creamier and nowhere near as harsh on the tummy. In fact many of our customers use our milk proteins as coffee creamer!
WE MAKE PROTEIN FOR PEOPLE - NOT WASTE MANAGEMENT
Just like the big brands who put whey protein into a beautifully designed big tub, or eye-catching packaging, you can put lipstick and a tutu on a pig. However it's still a pig - just a pretty one. Here at 2-Pure our choices are black and white. You always know where you stand with us. Lipstick not included.
